Transforming Medical Imaging with AI: Challenges and Opportunities

Abstract. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming the landscape of medical imaging, offering capabilities in early diagnosis, image interpretation, and personalized treatment planning. As deep learning models continue to demonstrate expert-level performance in tasks like detection, segmentation, and classification, their integration into clinical practice presents both tremendous opportunities and significant challenges. However, this rapid advancement also brings significant challenges, including data privacy concerns, regulatory hurdles, and the need for robust, unbiased algorithms. In this keynote, we will explore the evolving role of AI in medical imaging, highlighting technical barriers such as data scarcity, model generalizability, and interpretability. We will also discuss regulatory, ethical, and infrastructural concerns that must be addressed to ensure safe and equitable use of AI in healthcare. This talk aims to provide a forward-looking perspective on how interdisciplinary collaboration can shape the future of AI-powered diagnostics.
